Thread: Josh Jones Crappie Rod

I don't own one but I'll take a stab at the question. Extremely light weight and expensive materials that are mostly hand crafted to achieve spectacular sensitivity and balance. And yeah some of it is marketing. People(me included) pay twice that for a driver(golf) that they might hit 10 or 12 times in a round of golf. But scoff at paying a higher price for something they hold an entire fishing outing. I wish I had my golf club money back. I would own several more Cashion rods. To each his own for sure.

I'm very happy with my Dobyns bass rods in both casting & spinning. I wouldn't expect less in a crappie rod. He makes good stuff for sure.

Have to ask Gary Dobyns that question, figure they priced them where they think they can do the best with them. Josh Jones has a big following on social media and Dobyns rods are pretty popular mid to high end bass rods. There are quite a few people coming from bass fishing into crappie fishing now because of Livescope and are used to using nicer rods. This rod isn’t really being marketed to the crowd that likes $40 crappie rods, it’s more of a niche market. Depends on how you look at it I guess, it’s pretty cheap compared to buying eight BnM trolling rods and eight reels to get setup to spider rig or troll. You really only need one or two rods to do majority fishing with Livescope.

Now is it worth what they are asking? Only the guy holding it can decide that. I haven’t spent much time with it yet, not going to make any definitive statements on it yet other than it’s a very nice rod, as you would expect for the price and coming from Dobyns. I have used Huckabee rods for several years now and perfectly happy with them, not expecting magic out of this rod, I just like trying new stuff.

These dang Sardis fish would run from a rod that expensive . They still pretty shy of a Sam Heaton .

Can't speak for that particular rod, but when you think about it like this, it's not that bad.

$520 is what a lot of guys are pushing off the front end of the boat

That'll put 2 or 3 really nice rods and reels in your hands for the intended purpose of what the Dobyns rods are for.

Personally don't use them, but nothing against them. Found ACC first and happy with them. Southern Crappie Rods is about to drop two new scope rods, and I'll probably end up with two of the 14fters when they do because I've held them and they're incredible.

I probably dont want to hold one. USUALLY, as far as rods are concerned, if rods range anywhere from $15-$270 for a specific purpose (jigging), they feel exactly where they fall in that range. Sometimes ignorance is bliss if you don't like parting with your money

Thanks for the replies. Just curious to how folks liked these rods. A bit expensive but may be worth the money to a more serious crappie fisherman or woman .

I expect high quality from Dobyns and I own several Dobyns Bass rods that cost as much as this crappie rod.

I can’t see paying that price for a crappie rod, I usually get mine from bass pro or bnm, that’s a hefty price. Unless every time I let it down there’s a 12-15 inch crappie on it. Just saying, sorry your money, do what u want.
