Ray Scott, who hasn't heard of him? Legend is right! Did wonders for the bass angling community. He will be missed.

plus he was instrumental in developing many of the conservation programs of today.
Yes, as a matter of fact, I do have a retirement plan...FISHING!
The fishing community will be only one of many who will miss him
The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
I never was a bass fisherman but the excitement he brought to the sport of fishing made me a fisherman.
RIP Ray.

I was around Ray Scott several times during my brief BASS career. I fished on the Georgia BASS Federation Top 6 Team in 1980 at Grand Lake, OK. The tourney was the BASS Federation World Championship since some foreign countries also had teams there.
During one of the banquets, Ray was conducting a benefit auction of sponsor merchandise. I was standing in the back of the room, far removed from the bidding (I thought).
A guy from another state was asking for directions to somewhere in the area so here I am, pointing and using my hands to help give the guy directions. I may have even had my back to the podium where Ray was. All of a sudden, one of the female hosts brought me an arm load of items. She also needed my bid number that I had not used (I thought).
Seems Mr Scott had zeroed in on me in the back of the room and with my every move, made me the higher bidder. I was shocked but luckily my bid wasn’t out of my price range and I got several new items to fish with. One I’ll always remember was a full card of some foreign looking crappie baits called Blakemore Road Runners. I have ended up using them all these years since.
Ray and I later got a good laugh out of it. He was always a nice guy who took time to encourage twenty-something aspiring Bill Dances like me.

Ray Scott was quite the showman and part carnival barker. I first met him at a BASS recruiting event.
He had an old Blue Bird bus that he toured in around the country, renting school auditoriums and putting on a recruiting drive for BASS. He had Bill Dance, Roland Martin and others with him, praising the virtues of BASS and letting the pros have a little time on the stage, too.
I got a free Mann's worm just for showing up. I signed up for a year's membership, and got LOTS of Mann's worms.
The next year when he rolled through, he really hooked me. I signed up for a Life Membership, in 4 easy payments.
We would meet at various classics, and he always had time to chat.
RIP Ray.
