Yes, I bent the hook out like that, may be out a little more than it used to be though.
This fish was in 12' about mid-depth hanging around cover and bait. I thought it was a bass when it was hooked, stripped drag and pulled hard.
When seen in the water it even looked like a bass and continued a hard fight. To top it off, it jumped, and again I thought nice bass until I bent over to pick it up.
She was still nice and plump, no spawn yet, and very aggressive on the bite.
14 3/4" and is living to fight another day.
I decided last year to release all fish over 13" and haven't been keeping any for myself since last summer.......so far. But the freezer is getting low now so will start saving some eaters soon.

I love a good surprise fish. I use a lot of two pound stuff and fish like that live in my memory for a good while after the day. Good job on the release.
