Yep , some lakes are that way in these parts , went yesterday to a spot my bud hits almost daily and he even said he thought somehow he might have missed the spawn at his home lake .
I assured him there was no way they could have already finished in there ,
probably just running late for whatever reason . Sure enough, the water was about right temperature wise and the fish were just barely getting started in there . One looked like it spawned a little in the last few weeks , but the males were not colored up real hard and close to shore and all the girl fish looked blown up in the belly and smooth as glass.
told him this about that , that lake should be about on fire in the next 2 weeks for sure
found males in around 5 to 6 foot of water and girl fish out in 8 to 12 . Some lakes just have a different schedule on the spawn timing , not sure if it the indigenous population that causes it or something far more difficult to ascertain, but to be sure some lakes run early and some not so much and it seems that the size and or average depths of the lakes may or may not play a role in it ....
this coupled with the fact they will spawn for at least around 3 months or longer in lots of places ,makes the short water fish somewhat difficult to target .
stay at em and good luck out there

each lake even close by each other has different characteristics. Last season when two big lakes withint 40 miles were way done suddenly another started couple weeks later and led to incredible fishing simply because one of my buddies noticed guys on the bank when he went by catfishing and called me. was there that afternoon and it went crazy great for next 3 weeks till first of june! so try different ones and make up your own mind or querry your fishing buds to see what's happening.

Words of wisdom are always appreciated. Every lake, pond, and mud hole will be different in some ways, so local wisdom and knowledge can help fine tune things in a specific location. some things always hold true everywhere. Thanks Ketchn for all the wisdom you share.

a super duper really shallow average depth lake and it was mid May when I landed her...go figure right

On big lakes I would say that they are on a different schedule at different parts of the lake.

yep , it is that thing I mentioned about fish in the lake and the 3 different lives they live , in large water bodies it is quite often something you need to know about ....
