The term "Cork" has been around for a LOOOOONG time, because they WERE made of cork back in the olden days. First time I ever used one was around 1960, it was a bottle stopper cork. (10' cane pole, nylon line, #6 hook, crimp-on lead sinker)
Dad would take a rat tail file and open up the hole in the cork to where a torpedo sinker would fit snugly. It would then cast a country mile. Maybe the first weighted bobber. Late 50's, early 60's. I learned so much from him.

We used to get the "cork" from Granny's Garrett snuff bottle . Take a razor blade And make a slit for the line . Wrap the line around the cork a few times and let her rip . If no corks were available we used pine cones . Zebco 202 , hand dug red worms, was a 8 yr. old's war gear till a bowfin showed up lol
Even Jesus had a fish story ! Actually five .

Why not down size the “strike indicator “ ….
I do , it works really well on smaller fish species
Less is more is the idea here , less things to go wrong is best .

I’m having to add weight to the bottom of the float to get a long cast. I am tossing it way out there so downsizing the float won’t work right now. If I was in a boat I would use the smallest I could get away with.

If you go as light as mentioned , then you downsize the line as well , just saying

I’m not sure I want to use any lighter than the 2lb I’m already using.
