Default Little things we take for granted

Like a crockpot! Got up this morning and put some stew meat, onions and gravy over in the ole crockpot before getting ready for church. Fixing to walk out the door… looked in on the fixings that are supposed to be bubbling away by now, and something is not right… it’s warm but not bubbly and hot like I know it’s supposed to be. Natural I look at the dial, yep it’s on high, look at the plug, yep it’s plugged in, but when I grab the cord I knew it was good… it was hot as a firecracker. Upon closer inspection I find this

Needless to say I didn’t make it to church this morning. Got everything swapped to a newer crockpot and going again but I’ll not be crockpot cooking anymore if we are not going to be home.

Certainly the dangers of smal appliances. Arc Fault breakers are on the market to make things safer. They would have interrupted the circuit if the wire had melted enough to arc. They may even have outlet strips with arc fault protection now. I do not like leaving things running when I am not around. The crockpot usually goes on top of the gas stoves cast iron grates. In the event something happens the stovetop is fire-resistant for a time. Glad you caught it in time.

Glad you caught it in time. we do let ours run at night on a real long cook, maybe that’s not even a good idea.

It's amazing the number of things we don't think of.
