I check my drag on EVERY set up when I hit the water , the one or 2 times in the past that I didn't I wished I did.
love a smooth drag myself , but never went as far as to the changing the clutches out program before , interesting read .

Unless you are using 2lb line, drag really isn’t an issue with crappie.

I’ve long been a proponent of loosening drag after every trip. Gave my SIL and daughter a combo a while back and explained this to them both. Fished with the SIL today and found both of the rods he brought down tight and the combo I gave them now has a jerky drag that needs the washers replaced. Not to beat on him but the point is that even an inexpensive drag will work a long time if treated properly.

I have a couple of sets of washers waiting to go in a couple of my Presidents so I’ll have to be quiet, no first hand experience yet.

I think you'll like it. I upgraded to carbon-fiber on my President 25...a THIN smear of CALS...and it's smooth, low start up, but I know I can get more than the 8# drag specified if I wanted it....running 10# Sufix 832 to a leader (it's my bass finesse reel)
Hunting them down to broil them up.
