Tied these a couple of weeks ago for bluegill when things begin to warm a little. The jig heads are 1/80 oz.

what do you call the flared out part at the front of the jig? How do you achieve that look?

Its 2-3 wraps of a saddle hackle. When I finish off the head sometimes I'll wrap so it pushes the hackle back.

Nice work. Get your hot sauce ready. Gills taste really good and you are about to get some.
I personally just like a simple squirrel tail lure for bream. Quick and easy to tie like these ones by Eric Massey and Roman Avila. These are my simple, but effective go to ties.

I am "Old Ship"
Skiptomylu is "Skip" He was my mentor who started my venture into tying jigs about 17 or so years ago. Before that I was just soldering "Pinmin" ice jigs for about 45 years. It was only after joining crappie dot com that I learned to tie my own jigs and "Snake River" mentored me to be able to make my own soft plastic lures. Here is one of my first tries at it. How many of you remember these?
