    Default A Late Hill Report

Hit the lake in a new spot that I havent fished this year early Wednesday morning and fought the cold (mid 30's) idling out on the lake to where I wanted to begin at. I began longlining in water 25' deep pulling 8' deep. I only picked up a very few so I moved to the middle of the creek in water about 32'-35' deep. It was slow but when one did bite it was a real good 'un. Messed around doing this for a couple hours and when I was ready to move on I think I had 10 real good fish in the live well. (They were big enough that I just couldnt leave 'em....size over quantity anyday for me!) Two weeks ago I was moving farther out the creek to find 'em but this time I moved farther back up the creek and started fishing again just out in the 25' of water where it started getting shallower where the fish begin staging up right before the spawn starts. Bait was thick here so I knew some fish should bite. The wind was kicking pretty good around 10:30-11AM but I stuck it out trolling into the wind and throwing out two drift socks when I turned with the wind to stay straight only picking up a fish every now and again. Again though...good fish! The last hour I fished I dont think I even got a bite. Winds were howling and the livewell was full. I figured it was time to call it a day.

Wednesday was not the best Ive done on numbers by no means but as far as size it was a GREAT day for me. A few small fish swallowed the jigs so I kept those but everything else was atleast 12" fish....and bigger. I didnt weigh any fish but I know I had alot of 1 lb fish, 1.5 lb fish, and even a couple 1.75 lb fish. I kept 22 fish and the funny thing is I dont think anymore than 5 were females and all the rest were male fish.

Here's a few pics showing the size of a few...

I plan on hitting this place again next week after the weekend crowd leaves and the fish have a couple days to settle back down again.
Thanks Slab thanked you for this post

I didn’t keep any fish Wednesday but I think the better fish we caught were the first male in the back of the creek. I like catching 11-13” males. They usually thump it

Nice work Butch! I’ve got a couple staying at the house this weekend (since Thursday) and they’ve been fighting the wind too. They haven’t caught a lot of fish, but the ones they’re catching have been nice ones.
