Now THAT is a good looking lure.

This is an 1/8th oz Bat Jig with the Do-It Whacky hook size #2, BG Baby Shad Swimmer in Live Minnow color, a brass willow leaf plated in chrome size 0/0 attached with the open eye swivel size 8 (Chinese sizing ), and the chrome paint is from Prismatic Powders in Super Chrome Plus.

The chrome head is awesome and shines like the finest lure I have ever seen. I dipped in jar twice and baked at 375. Many times powder paints ordered in bulk will NOT fluidize well. Protec powders fluidize best probably, but then that limits your selection and expense. So I dip. I oven bake the heads nose up in a clamp, so getting a super thin covering is not a concern for me.

The lure POPS and glimmers and it is a good size. The tiny blade will allow for extra action and offer a nice target for the stupid fish. Whist fiddling it up I realized that the smoothest portions are the shinest. So the eye sockets being flat and smooth flash at me, and the ridges around the eye sockets flash. This means no eye as that would reduce the glare. Besides when I applied my UV clear coat the chrome turned into a dull grey. They say chrome powders require an overcoat and that this discolors them slightly. Well it ain’t slightly at all, it is very apparent. They also say the chrome is more susceptible to getting scratched and that is a reason to clear coat. They also say the chrome may fade in the Sun. ( Boy I sure hope not ).

My little curly haired schnauzer (11 years old ) was diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus Type II yesterday. Poor feller gonna need insulin injections twice a day for, well forever I guess. You know we get these little fellers into our homes and they become part of the family. We will all experience health related issues at some point. Schnauzers are known to have pancreatic conditions and so I kept snacks far far away from him. Doctor says he is over weight, but he carries it well and chases squirrels with the best of them. His father was rat killing champion of Kentucky two years in a row. Real savage that one. More than one rat a second, as in grab bite toss…grab bite toss….
Maybe they will bite this one……

Great looking bait. Sorry to hear about the pup. They do become part of the family. A lot like children most of the time.

That IS a great looking lure!!! Wow I like that a lot. I wonder how the Prismatic powder chrome compares to Protec chrome?

Dave- Haven’t tried Protec brand chrome. If it comes out bright and shiny, well that should be fine. If it comes out no brighter than a freshly poured head, try something else. Eastwood also makes a super chrome and you can get $15 off first order. Their shipping rate stinks but you’ll get it quick and can get your freak on faster.

A friend passed away yesterday. James Brown. He was 95 and could crawl into a boat and fish most days. I called him cowboy because he liked to wear a cowboy hat. He made me a gift of a handmade leather holster with a nice line cutter inside. I gave him jigs. We could all hope to make 95, let alone be fishing several days a week. He was a member in my crappie club.

Some color combinations for me to try. I mean if I ever get to fish again.

Maybe lighting but that chrome looks to be a little darker than protec? Hard to say. But at the end of the day where does protec get their powder paint. CSI probably gets it from the main source, repackages into smaller containers and mark up the price.

If you’re after a shiny head have you ever just tried disco silver? About as shiny as it gets especially if you add a little sliver holographic glitter on top.

DrNip I have thought the same about CSI and Protec. The reason I was asking is there are several different styles of chrome and was just wondering if any noticeable difference. Looking online it's really hard to tell sometimes. I have Protec and I'm fine with it. But you did give me a thought what about chrome with silver holographic glitter? That should pop I would think.

That is a beautiful finish, Micanopy! Almost too pretty to fish.

I remember years and I mean years ago I had some size 00 split rings that were a pain to put on but solved this issue. No longer can find them. I don’t have a size 12 swivel to compare these smaller ones I have but here they are next to a split ring swivel smallest size it comes. If you ever find a lead on size 00 split ring let me know.
