I don't use one on the boat. I do a small 200 watt set of panels keeping the deep cycles on the ckicken coop charged. They take up a 4' by 4 foot area. I have been thinking of a center console boat. Panels would make an awesome T-top.

Do any of you use a solar panel while on the lake to help with keeping batteries as full as possible?
My setup is 24v 80lb Terrova! I’ve never ran out of power, but haven’t fished more than 6 hrs yet with it! Got a trip coming up next month to Florida and I expect we will be on the water for 10-12 hrs!
If any of you are using a solar panel, can you give me some recommendations?

The size of a panel that would be worth the effort is pretty large compared to the size of the boat. You'll need 300W or so to even make a dent in it. That's going to be 4'X6'.

An mppt controller will maximize the power being put out of the panels. 3 panels should run the trolling motor on all but the hoghest settings. I bought Renogy panels and controller. They have been going without fail for 4 years now
