On a 1/32 it seems to not matter as far as catch rate . About all I use to cast with and I normally have tail down .

Try em in all directions! Let the fish tell you how they want it Have caught em up,down, and even some days they prefer it sideways!

Never hooked the tail or had tail position affect how the grub swims. The only time I hooked the tail is from missed strikes.
More important to me is that the grub body is absolutely straight on the jig hook. Maybe a superstition, but a totally linear appearance on the hook has always done better for me than a rounded body caused by a hook that comes out too far back.

But when it comes to grub tail shape, I prefer the tail tip on top when the base of the tail is very thin.

Note how thin the tail's base; this one whips & flutters with tip up or down but I prefer it up - especially on a B.Spin. Wider curl tails don't do it for me though I know they catch fish.

I’ve always rigged em tail up and I do everything with em, cast, troll, pitch, deep jig, vertical jig, you name it. It’s what we could find before all the plastics we use now came along. Only colors were white, yellow, chartreuse and green. If ya got real lucky you might find some black. Two colors on the same grub was unheard of.

I’ve rigged them tails up and tails down for years, doesn’t seem to make much difference IMO, every now and then you will get a hook point in the tail.

If I’m using a Roadrunner type jig I rig tail up, but mostly I rig tail down. Rigging you grubs?

I of course NEVER rig one tail down , but at the same time know little to diddly about using said curly tail baits .....
probably don't matter much in the end ,but my bait has to make me happy for me to ketch fish with it and tail up makes me happy
sum kawl me tha outlaw ketchn whales
