I've done it at C-land before ... just used a 12v headlight in styrofoam in the water & 12v white lights in my "blacklights" to illuminate the rods/floats. Caught a few, too.

I've not fished Cedar at night with lights and I probably never will after the last time I was there at night. I was testing out my Livescope and could barely see the Garmin screen for all the "bugs" attracted to it. The closer I got to any stand of trees or the bank, the worse they got. And the sad thing about it was ... I scoped 7 or more stands of trees in the dam ramp area, and there wasn't a single fish on any of them. After that fiasco I've all but given up on fishing Cedar Creek.

Yes use green lights and lanterns at both. I've done pretty good at Cumberland at times even got into some walleye actually thinking about going this Sat night but I've never started this early. I will do a trip or 2 at night at Cedar every year. You need to take about 5000 minnows because you will catch 4000 3-4 inch crappie a night lol . I usually manage a few and since it is a mile from my house its something to do but If I want to put fish in the freezer I feel like my best chance is at Cumberland. I have never tried the night bite at Green I probably should.

I have caught several white crappie. This biggest a little over 2lbs. We catch alot of smaller ones at night. But catch quite a few. Was told someone brought them from ky lake. Don't know how true. Night fishing is usually pretty good all summer long. I live 10 minutes away so I go and if no good can be back home in no time. Cedar fishes more like northern lakes because of the grass and it does not have defined channels. We have caught crappie in the grass in 3ft of water 18 inches deep in the daytime middle of summer. I do my best staying in 15-18 ft of water for the better fish.

Went back today and brought home 9 and 4 of those were white crappie had a 14" and a 13" those were whites. Talked to Randy and he weight a 181/4 that went 3lb.46 a couple weeks ago it was a white also. Now that a hoss. No fish had eggs, the blacks were 9' deep 15' of water and the whites were 16' deep over 20' of water, temp still at 63 degrees.

It may not be the best place to get a limit of fish but if a guy was patient it might be the place to get a trophy crappie. I saw a pic of a 3 pounder that come out back in Feb that was a hoss and the guy at the bait shop had a pic of one almost 4 pounds a guy brought in a couple weeks ago. I may fish it at night this weekend last time I was down the grass was getting pretty bad already not unfishable buy any means but aggravating.

Yeah, wouldn't surprise me about those weights in Crappie. I saw a pic of a HUGE Redear that was caught by the guy that used to own the little store at the ramp by the dam. I can't remember the exact weight, but it was several pounds. Biggest Redear I've caught from there was maybe 8-9", and I've caught several of that size from there ... but that was back in the early years of the lake, and when I was boatless and a bank angler.

I guess they've given up on the original ideas of having a marina & beach at Cedar Creek (which I wasn't all that enthused about, anyway) ... but I often wonder what the lake would be like now, had they kept the Shad, Green Sunfish, White Crappie, and other "unwanted" species out of it. I'm not sure the introduction of stocker Rainbow Trout would have made any difference, but the "trophy fish" aspect of the original intent sure hit a wall once those unwanted species got a foothold.

We had a good time Sat night. Took my BIL, his friend and my wife. We caught about 15 good crappie one about 2 pounds and 100+ too small. Tried out a 12 dollar amazon led light that lit up the boat well.

Deadaim looks like a fun night for sure. How many lights do you guys put out and how deep do you put the lights. Going to order myself a light or lights. Thanks
