Default I have a question about cleaning fish.

On a Facebook page is a picture of a couple of crappie fishermen standing at the end of a dock. Behind them is a sign saying not to dispose of fish guts in the lake, and all cleanings must be carted off. I've always thought that putting the innards back in the lake was the ultimate recycling. Why would a marina operator not want to put fish remains back into the lake?

A particular spot of water has the ability to only "absorb and recycle" a certain amount of fish waste in a time period. A dock like that could easily exceed that amount in minutes leaving the rest of the fish waste to just rot and stink, attract unwanted birds/gulls, etc.

Creates a mess (because people ore messy), draws birds and smell might be the reason. I doubt the body of water can't absorb it. Plenty of fish will come in to eat it including huge catfish.

There is a fish cleaning station at Truman that will have literally thousands of fish cleaned in a day and that area is just fine.

probably a bird pooping festival all over everything is my guess .
the lake can take it for sure , but the wildlife "recycling" it might get bothersome

I have seen multiple locations that literally SWARM with catfish when the innards hit the water .
it could also be an attempt to keep folks from fishing that area

My neighbors at LOZ think that I will attract otters by throwing the remnants off my dock. I don’t really think so but I’ve been hauling them off lately.
