The last couple of months I have been fishing between noon and 6 pm. I would catch 2 or 3 most days but the last couple of trips after the cold snap I had skunks. A friend of mine told me it was a late bite now, that he had caught over 20 Tuesday night, with the biggest being 1.34 pounds. He said the bite was between 7 pm-2 am.
So I decided to stay later to see if I had better luck. Now mind you, I was not going to stay till 2 am but I was going to test it. Between 2 pm till 6 pm I only caught 1 small crappie. But at 6:30 they started coming up from the bottom to circle the jig but did not bite at first.
Then they starting bitting. By 9 pm I had caught 8 more. Since I was tired and it had turned colder I went home. My friend told me I was still leaving too early as the strongest bite was between 11 pm and 2 am. I told him I would his word on that.
The nice thing about it was that several of the crappie were starting to show color.
Now I realize that 8 more crappie in two hours is nothing to brag about until you compare it to the 2-3 I have been catching the last two months in 6-8 hours of fishing. And it was definitely better than the two skunks I had on my last two trips.![]()

They will sit on the bottom and I think they do so more than the belief a catfish does..... But then it's a crappie and the next hour they will be suspended in ? ft of water bout half way down.....
It's what's fun about fishing for these fish...... The catchn can be tough.....
