    Default B&M tree thumper rod question


    Ok this may be the dumbest post I’ve ever made but bear with me. Also not a bashing thread.

    I recently bought a tree thumper 10’ rear seat and like the balance and feel of it.

    i have been using 1/16 jigs and tubes. The issue I’m having is the line doesn’t want to travel out the rod. It seems to be worse after the rod get wet when getting a jig unhung. I can’t tell if it’s a eye problem or line problem. I have gone through 80 yards of line cutting back to see if that is the issue.

    the rod is rated 4-8#so I would think 6# would be fine.

    any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I’m at a loss on this one.

    What line are you using ? What size jig heads ?

    I've been using 6# suffix line and 1/16oz jig heads.

    I say it is drag....

    Either add more weight with a heavier jig or....

    Dip the jig into the water and sweep the rod, the resistance of the water will help pull more line out.

    I'm not familiar with that rod, but you will have this problem if there are not enough guides. How many guides does the rod have?

    If there are not enough guides or the guides are spaced too far apart, the line will often stick if the blank is wet.

    The rod has 8 guides on it. I tried searching this on the internet but haven't seen anyone mention it. That's what has me questioning the issue.

    The rod is "designed" for pitching jigs around trees I would think it should toss a 1/16 all day.

    I think it is more of a dipping rod! I bought one 3 years ago and haven't used it yet, but only for dipping when I do get to go fishing!

    I use 6 lb stren on mine and have no problem that I've noticed. It has become my favorite. I use a 1/32 oz jighead but fish 6-10 feet deep exclusively.
