    Default Finally felt the thump!!!

Installed Livescope on the boat a couple weeks ago but because I’ve been sauger fishing, yesterday was the first time I’ve used it.
Of course I’ve watched every video, read everything available but never fished using it.
I got on the water at 11:30 yesterday. The lake I went to was up 5 ft but they were drawing it down.
I went to a place I had caught crappie in the past and dropped the transducer in using Rickie’s DaDucer mount(excellent product). He is a great guy to do business with. Highly recommend.
Looked with amazement at all the fish movement everywhere. Like I’ve read, the screen lit up.
    Now back to fishing.
First few drops with excitement, produced nothing. Still fine tuning depth, gain, distance and myself.
Premature jerking a bunch because my jig would disappear and my brain just said jerk dummy.
Still no fish. Seem to do that a lot.
    THEN CAME THE THUMP!!!!
Yeah, I caught my first fish using Livescope.
Ended the day catching 46-47 crappie and 1 stripe bass. Only had 6-7 that measured over the 10 inch minimum size limit. Caught 16-18 off 1 tree. I released everything. Got plenty to eat in freezer.
Crappie fished all my life but it always under a bobber or pushing double minnow rigs.
Now I know what the CDC members are referring to by the THUMP!!!!
Thanks to CDC for being an awesome site that I am proud to be associated with.
    Chuck

Fun, ain't it? You will like it more and more as you learn and get used to it. I have almost quit "watching my jig", I just see where they are, cast, get to the right depth, and start retrieve. Wish this cold wind and rain would let up, but I guess this is why I bought thermal underwear, bibs, and gore-tex, so I am going anyway. Just hard to keep a cigar lit.

    Fun for sure!!
A little sore between the shoulders this morning. Probably from holding the 12 ft BGJP and standing or leaning against butt seat. I’m used to sitting in a comfortable Millinnium chair and setting 14 ft rods and pushing minnows.
Hope I never buy another minnow in my life. Lol

I wish I could get you in the boat for two or three days and let you fish the way I do. I can’t push spider style, internal motor runs too quick. Troll long line some when it’s right or I’m looking for fish. Most times I’m fishing one on one with em, and the reward is great— even if it isn’t big. Now get small and drop a 1/32 or smaller into those fish you found on two pound braided line and you’ll experience fun at a whole other level. Glad to hear you’re having fun, that’s what we’re all chasing. The fish are just icing on the cake.

    Skeet,
I started out using 1/16 jig with Bobby Garland monkey milk Shad shaped plastic and tipped with chartreuse crappie nibble. Used a sinker stop to peg above and below 1/16 bullet weight about 8 inches above jig. Fishing about 17-18 foot deep in 25 foot or so of water. Seemed like it took too long to get the bait to the fish. Switched to 3/8 oz jig head and that allowed me to make the drop much faster. Did discover the fish wanted the jig above them and not in their face.
As I said it was my maiden trip with Livescope and I have soooooo much to learn.
I would love to get in the boat with you. Always up for help. I’ll learn but at 66 years old I’m a little slower than I was in my younger days.
    Chuck.

Those fish weren’t thinking the jig was too slow, they ate it anyway. I was using 1/4 oz brush guard jigs fishing 55 fow at 35’. Try this, take a magic marker while the line is dry and mark the happy depth. Then spot your fish and cast out to your mark and close the bail, letting the bait pendulum down into the fish. The line will be tight when they thump it. I miss fishing straight down, we had timber and if it did as I described, you’d be hung most every time. Now deep brush or ledges, do like I said and pay attention. Great fun. Over 20’ I always used braid, tied direct.

Almost every place is totally timber with only a few visible standing above waterline. Everything else submerged timber and bushes. Never be able to cast anything. I only used forward view and only fish vertical . Don’t think casting would be an option where I was.
    Thanks
    Chick

I have never been more entertained, or laughed so hard, as when fishing LS.
    Amazing what a man sees.
