Spot on! Micanopy hit it on the head. I won’t ramble but I will add that you need to handle before you buy. Each one is different and the factory marking may say they’re the same.

Well being new and all I don’t have an opinion to offer. Don’t have any rods neither. LOL
I have read and read trying to decide what would work best for me and it just isn’t coming to me. I was an accomplished surf caster and people would ask me about rods that can cast over 700 feet. One day I met a man on the beach that wanted to show me the rod he bought based on my recommendation. Little feller with a rod made for someone huge like me. I felt horrible as he was trying to get by and what he really needed was a 10 foot rod. So I stopped recommending rods to people I didn’t know.
It is hard to guess which internet recommendation suits you best. Right now my style is wide open to manipulation and exploitation. Just real happy they don’t cost $400 each. LOL. If my house burned down the insurance agent would be madder about the surf fishing gear than the rafters.
I think the OP needs to really assess what is his most likely usage and choose a length that he can get by with on his plastic yacht. Once a length has been chosen then an action can be considered and hopefully that will point him at a model. It is easy to get it wrong and not realize that fact. We gather gear we think we will use all the time. I’ve got some rod holders already destined to be stored away.
Maybe I will start a new thread and leave his alone.
Maybe they will bite this one……Mike1234 LIKED above post

There has been some improvements made by them since this thread was started many years ago. The only B&M rod models I use now are the Richard Williams models which have never broken and the latest Russ Bailey model that I purchased just last season. Had to replace one before the season was over though. I won’t buy another. My Wally Marshall rod is my most dependable that I have.
