I would just add that the tax rate is what increases as your income increases. This is as opposed to a flat tax. With a flat tax, everyone would pay the same rate, but their total tax bill would increase as their income increases.

The problem with the progressive tax bill in Illinois is, they are including with it the ability to change taxes in the future without ballot approval. A big NO vote for me.

Progressive is a BS word to start with... that really doesn't have a meaning... but can be... and usually is... whatever the claimant organism wants it to be.
I shy completely away from anything that claims to be "PROGRESSIVE" because it almost always brings infinitely worse things than it claims to be improving.

Tax laws are designed to squeeze money from the middle class. This is where the money resides. Besides, most of us do not have the "means" to escape the greed of government.
We have about 150 million people earning above the poverty line. if you just multiply 150 million x $23,000 , well that is a lot of loot for the looters to loot.
