    Default Reel talks...

Hello all before start please forgive if this been discussed to death elsewhere I might have missed since I’m still new here. With threads of vintage and not so vintage equipments on board, I love reading them all btw, I thought it be fun to share some pictures and perhaps a little history of your favorite reels over the years!...

The second picture got me started in early80’s when I didn’t have much money for my catfish and pond trout adventures. The rest I added over years as needed. They were mostly “flea market “ reels when 4 ball bearings were hot cakes and every kids in the block ditching their old reels just to get their hands on the Daiwa and Shimano of the time...lol! Oh yeah I’m not a collector I don’t think, just grew up taught not to waste anything that’s not broken so I hordes them for sentimental, but I still fish with most of them. Your thoughts are welcome

Wouldn’t mind that fenwick rod. Very nice. I’ve worn out most of my old reels. My first was a browning Silaflex with a Daiwa mini mite. As I’ve said already, it lit my ultra light fire that hasn’t died yet.

And please pardon my manners, welcome from Central Florida.

I noticed the Heddon. I have a Heddon 205-R and a 282 in the queue for resto.

Love the old gear! Thanks for sharing. Tell us more.

Thank you for the welcome! The fenwick lagacy I acquired in late 90’s when I broke several other rods. Now come to think of it only reason it’s still in one piece cuz the blank is all glass. It can take a lot of bend.

Up until about 15 years ago the Heddon and Mitchel 304 along with old cardinal were still in service for Lake Mead outings but proved to be too slow for fast running striped bass and largemouths so I acquired several Abu Garcia with big yellow one being my main catfish and striped bass reel. It was retired soon I picked up the Quantum PT and Cardinal c33, awesome reel btw of early 2000! The Morrum was a odd man out type of reel bought just to try out practice casting but never got into until this BFS craze got it out of the shed...lol. Yeah lots of memories in these reels.

99.9 % of any of the reels I have older than 10 years or so has been wore out or broke
a few are troopers though and have been retired or they wouldn't still be around
one salt water Penn gets to rest in a crown royal bag ,she whooped more sockeye than most people will ever encounter
and one loomis fly reel rests with her as it just to nice to use day to day
the rest of my reels get to go until done and to say i have a bunch is not even accurate
i kill tackle , its what i do

Nothin wrong with that Ketchn, with each reel you killed you gained pleasure and a little life experience! I'd throw all them reels in the fire if I can gain those moments fishing..lol. Needless to say I just don't fish enough.
