Kayak Trip Report, Madison County Lake
I fished Madison County Lake Friday morning for about three hours, found Crappie on three brush piles. I kept six and returned three slabs. All came off 1" sliders fished eight to ten feet deep. I'd planned to return today while I had more time, but the lake had risen six inches and visibility had dropped from three feet to less than a foot. Still managed five this morning, but the fish had scattered with fish showing on my fish finder eight to ten foot deep all over the lake. Made for a hard day casting, but would have been perfect conditions for spider rigging (I didn't bring my long poles).
. Still a fun morning with somewhat cooler conditions. The water was 85 degrees at daylight.

Nice job! What do you take into account when deciding to spider right versus cast?

Spider rigging is better for covering water when fish are scattered, especially suspended, because you can keep your bait at a desired depth. When fish are on structure, I usually single pole jig, but have found casting will sometimes catch them then vertical jigging won't.

Glad you got to catch a few. I might give it a try this weekend myself.
