I use JDM equipment which is very expensive. You absolutely will not fool with the American trash that passes as fishing equipment once you fish with JDM equipment...It's unbelievable how good, smooth, and sensitive these setups are. I've got St Croix and they don't stand up to JDM.
Get a Major Craft Finetail FAX 6'3" super ultralight and thank me later. It'll run about $170...marry a decent JDM 1000 series spinning reel to it and you've got an unreal setup.

I use a 6’6 ML rod, not real brand particular but I do like the feel of a good graphite rod. Bnm, Jenko, Lews...they all have a decent priced pole for the money.

Lykins tr21, I use a spinning rod all the time for panfish, and recommend one at least 6' long. Now, I get the dang cheapest thing I can get at Wal-Mart and they work great at about $8-15 each. You can get 'better' ones from $20-150 each, but, I personally don't think the extra cost is worth it. (I had a $75 rod, it was OK, but my other $12 rod was just as good). I use 'dogbone' bobber stops, only available from Cabelas that work great with my slip bobbers. The slide through the guides without affecting the cast.
