Last couple times out for me they're either on fire or in a compete funk. Sat on 100's of them in a brush pile in Beech, and watched them livescope laugh at me

So work was light today, after I sat a boiler for the remodel, I realized it was only 2:00. Probably better hook up the boat and try em out, no point in wasting a decent afternoon. I went home and scooped up Rocko, launched @ Settlers around 4:00. Did not feeling like going toward the river, tired of catching fish up there, decided to make good on my promise to myself to fish different spots. So I threw a dart at the proverbial wall so to speak (Scientific form of data compilation from past experiences, calmness of the water, and emptiness of my gas tank) and decided to fish in between the WMA and a half mile south of HorseShoe Bend, in a cove which had a nice break from the West wind. Promised momma bear two hours of fishing time, so from 4:30 to 6:30 I caught 4 crappie. Very slow during this time period, on a normal day we generally catch anywhere from 10-20 in this quick window I have during the week. I’ve caught more several times this year but we typically enjoy consistent action, give or take a lull or two. Spoke with one other boat, two young Bro’s. Informed me that they caught a “s***load”, with a swift refusal to let me peek in the cooler. Gonna give em a go tomorrow as well. Report to follow.
Good luck out there boys.![]()

Locator79, Man, were you putting minnows in front of these 100 crappie or just a jig? I would think they would eat a minnow anywhere near them. I have found out most of the successful 'jig' fishermen put a minnow on the hook with the 'jig' for some reason when things get tough. I agree, if they are active, a jig of any type near them will get their attention, but when they are not too active, a live 'tuffie' minnow is the best bet to get them to bit.

I don't do minnows, I'll tip with a nibble if need be. Just got back from a few hours out, same deal. Marked huge piles of fish, they aren't in a f.good mood. Think I put 9 in the boat, maybe 7 keepers. Not a boat I be talked to had any fish. Broke a Huckabee and went home.
