Thread: LOST a river monster crappie AGAIN

couldn't get the hook set I wanted , the fish loaded up on me with a really light light bite and it was on before my older fella you know what was ready
I knew I had a big fish when I did the slight side arm hook set up under the certain something I had my rod tip up under .
Then in pretty short order it got unhappy and it was on like donkey kong and on the top
So we met eye to eye within just about grab it distance of me with the water a flying up from where it was supposed to be .
it had that big ole bucket of a mouth open wide as it could …..its weight, length and width across the back distracted me for a blink ….
several violent head shakes and it started moving away taking drag and then …..POOF IT WAS GONE
now to say I was not so happy at that moment in time is an understatement ….of course there was only little ole me there to hear some strange fella saying some not nice words about the entire 8 or 10 seconds of action .
but there are times I lose a few and it didn't stop me from putting the jig in that area for a good while trying to trick it into one more go .
mind you I managed a good number of good fish in that same area and a few were really nice sized fish , but the fish I wanted to take a selfie with just slipped the hook and I had to use stand in, stunt fish instead of the star of the show
the truth is often stranger than words my friends and sometimes the things I see are hard to imagine or believe .
but none the less I remember it like that and will add it to my list of the ones that got away .
you see its difficult to forget a fish like that and a few many years later haunt me ….
and that one will likely be one of those for some time to come.
KABOOM is still the word though ,even if I didn't get to hold that one
next fish please

Oh the infamous story of the big one that got away. I have felt that sick feelin' many times throughout my fishin' years... and honestly... I hope and pray to the Good Lord that I get to lose at least that many more.
