I watched an old gentleman and his granddaughter crappie fishing in what I thought to be a very unique way recently, The water depth they were in was 5-8’ and cloudy.They were using minnows,a small split shot without a cork, fishing around tree stumps.
The old guy would back his 12’ boat right up to a stump,and tie off.He would lie down with just his head showing,he would then drop the minnow right behind the boat and basically tight line.I watched him catch perhaps 10 crappie in this manner.
I guess it was the rarity of this style that struck me,his rod was similar to an icefishing rod,perhaps 30” long.In an age of long fishing rods used for vertical jigging,and dipping,it was interesting to see this approach for sure.

I don't know about snoopy rods but I can wear some fish out and my wife as well with our Shakespeare Barbie pole and I aint just joking about that at all
as far as sneaking up on the fish ….I might do it ….them there mountain native brookies require it for sure . I know that much

I got some decent rods/reels but someday I hope to upgrade to a Barbie pole!

We do that ice fishing with minnow. It’s called dead sticking. One tip I can give is to use a limber enough rod and enough weight so it puts a slight bend in the rod. Like loads it up some. Then when you get an UP bite. You can see it. Crappie do that very often.

Same concept but open water. I have used my vexilar fish finder off a boat before and vertical jigged with my tungsten ice fishing jigs and jigging spoons. It worked good.
