    Default Finetail Fun

I recall it was 1985, my freshman year in college and I met these blonde twin sisters....wait, wrong story, let’s try again.

The Majorcraft Finetail 6.3UL has become my favorite bank fishing rod, hands down. The last couple weeks have been tough with rain, wind, falling and rising waters..blah blah, excuses I know. I have caught a few fish on the sporadic trips in the afternoon, not a lot but they have all been corralled with the Finetail. The shortest rod in the stable, but the most fun with the most bend. I have been using the “Human Hair” Sunline, 3lb, and it is a challenge within itself. Jury is still out, but I am having success with the Scott Bunch knot, braid to fluorocarbon leader. It is holding, not slipping, and I am getting a little better at it. I think it is just a variation on the 3 turn surgeons knot. Anyway, enough rambling let’s see some Finetail Fish.

Several small specimens were caught as well, these made the cut.

The next trip proved just as fun. It will handle the big fish, they just dictate where they want to go.

Rising waters, had to hike through the woods to find clean water, and fish.

Fun this rod is, but the bank fishing days are about over. Snakes, bugs, and poison ivy will put me in the boat for the rest of the spring and summer, the rod will be on board in the rotation. Stay safe out there.

    Question about braid fluor knot.
I use the double uni knot but I may have added a step inadvertently.
When I tie the first uni the 5 wraps go around both lines. Same with 2 uni.
I'm other words the uni doesn't just loop over joining line like it would a hook.
Both lines are wrapped in the knot. I've never had mine slip but heard others do.
I don't think they are trying the same way..

Nice looking outfit by the way.

Nice fish, Stan, and really “fishy” looking water. My stream is blown out right now, but in a couple of days should be ready for a trip. Hope the park is still open...

There is a whole lot of advice on the JDM lines board about knots and which ones to use. I have tried several with little success. The knot I have found to be working with this fine as hair line is found on the Crappie Magnet Facebook page and tied by Scott Bunch, a member of their pro staff. He uses it with Gliss and fluorocarbon, and Gliss is a slick line. Check it out if you can, I cannot link here due to ineptness.
