Thank you very much. I think I'll stay around the house and fish in a few local ponds.

I’ve been here two days, water temp 64 today’s air temp 81 and a beautiful full moon, crappy so slow almost like the lake doesn’t have any crappie in it, the couple guides I talked to just catching a couple, we marked some fish in the channel, about 6 boats trolling back and forth trying to get them to bite, long lining and spider rigging, none doing any good, I saw 3 or 4 fish caught, we never caught a single crappie, and we fished under lights until 11:pm nothing, anyone thing of driving here to crappie fish, don’t waste your time and money, talked to a guy at the boat ramp riding a golf cart, he said he had been here at Talquin lodge sense the first of January and the fishing has been really slow. I’m very disappointed, wish I had went on down to okeechobee, this is as honest of report as I can give, The crappie fishing here is off bad

I’ve fished several lakes in Fl. Over the years, and this has to be the worst crappie bit I’ve ever experienced, and to add to the bad of this trip, we called a week ahead and asked about renting a cabin at Talquin lodge close to the water, the lady said she would save us a cabin, when we showed up no cabin, I let the guy know I was disappointed that they didn’t save the cabin for us like we were told, then we were offered a two bedroom mobile home, we were tired after driving 10 hours, and excited to get on the lake and do some fishing, and the guy at the desk said it was in better condition than the cabins, but was located in the back of the fish camp, and it was really in very bad condition, as you open and close the front door, the wall that runs from the front door to the right toward the kitchen, the bottom of the wall was rotted lose from the floor, we had planned on staying there a full week, but after being there two days and nights, and the bits being so bad, we decided to leave, and had to pay for an extra day for leaving early, I complained that we didn’t even get the cabin close to the water that we were promised and the fishing was terrible, but the guy insisted we pay the extra days rent, he said it was a rule they had, so don’t get took like we did, if you plan to rent a place from Talquin lodge, be careful, Because you are told before you start your long drive, that you will get a clean water front cabin, don’t mean that’s what you will get after you get there. I’ll be back to fish Talquin lake but I’ll never stay at Talquin fish camp again, they took me for 80.00 for the extra night rent, but if I’m bless to live several more years, the hundreds that I’ll spend fishing that lake will be spent with another business.

I usually fish Eufaula because my parents have a house over there and I leave my big boat there all the time. I'm headed to Eufaula next Friday.
My grandpa recently gave me a stick steer boat that just finished setting up to longline. I'm only about an hour and a half from Talquin so I could make it a day trip.

Whipporwill cabins has always been great for us. I know the restaurant is closed but I think Jeff still has the cabins for rent.

My experience there is they think they are better than me! That is why I usually put in somewhere else.

My parents went over there yesterday and caught 25 and they were about to pop they were so full of eggs. They cut the water flow off and the bite slowed down. They said the grass is so thick on the edge from the water pushing it you can't get a minnow under it. They also said the water has cleared up a little bit from last weekend when my dad and I were over there. We didn't fish at all last weekend because of high muddy water. We did a weekend of tinkering to get all running lights working, added LED strip lights around the rail of both boats, I rigged up 8 new 14' rods for spider rigging, and put new graphs on my boat. My wife, son and I are headed over there next Friday before the new moon.
Looks like they are wearing them out at the overflow pipe at witch’s ditch on Eufaula

[/QUOTE] i live on lake talquin, the back of hammock creek. fishing has really picked up in the last week. i brought home 17 three days ago, only five two days ago (fog kept me from going to where i wanted to fish), and caught 21 yesterday. only fish 3 hours in the morning, bad back tires me out. long lining fish in 13 to 16 feet of water, sometimes 20 feet or more. read the comments about lake talquin lodge and the problems with the rooms. the whip has good lodging and jeff is a fine guy there. ingrams marina also provides good lodging. they have done a lot of work on their place last two years.
