Yes they taste similar to bream. You may find the texture closer to LM Bass. My wife thinks they taste like a cross between the two. Battered and fried they are fine eating. We fillet and skin all ours and considering the stuff big sugar pumps into the water I recommend you do the same.

Are they a native fish species? Just curious. I’d love to try them on the plate.

They are invasive and multiply like crazy. You can fill a 75 q t cooler every day from the same spot. The bream and crappie don't stand s chance.

How is that landing at Holiday Park? I go to the saltwater part of the Glades a lot but have never fished the freshwater canals? But on days that wind and storms won't let us fish the gulf coast those canals could be a great option. I just didn't know how secure those interior areas are to leave a nice tow vehicle? The crime is so bad in parts of South Florida that I like to get people's opinions before I try a new ramp.

The park itself is very secure. There's a tin of tourist traffic in and iut of there all the time.
Now some of the smaller landings are unmanned but we've never had a problem. problem
You can also jump off Hwy 27 on to I75 N. and put in at the rest center. Its manned and there's a police substation there.

Glad you were able to make the trip this year, it has to be fun pulling them in like that. That would be an unforgettable trip

Actually I won't make it this year. I was very hopeful that my chemo would allow me to go but I had such a bad reaction last week I ended up in hospital.
I can't take a chance on that happening while on the trip.
So I'll have to pass this year.
I even bought a new boat to take too!

Wow, didn't realize this was an old thread, I thought you had somehow managed it, will keep you and all others fighting that plague of a disease in prayers
