    Default Bad day for minners...

Well after calling everyone on my contact list to go fishing today and getting turned down ever time, I said screw it I'm goin anyways by mah self. Was it cold? Yes it was, 43 when I launched at 7:15. Was it windy? Terribly. 2 good reasons to not go fishin, but hey, it's my disease and you only live once right?? So I start off in Dunn's close to the river, 45 seconds after I take my seat I swing a nice speck in the boat. Close behind that was a nice copperhead and a warmouth. Kept trying it till about 8:45 with no bites so I picked up and hit a spot by Buffalo bluff. It was blowing pretty stiff across that section of river but the current was very slow today so I managed to somewhat keep the boat at about .3 to .5 mph. Well it wasn't long and I swung a decent speck over the rail. I hit spotlock on the Riptide and went to the back of the boat to deal with the fish and I look back to the front and I got 2 rods down. I grab em up and swing the left fish in the boat, a warmouth. The other fish was not coming quietly. It immediately took a left and tangled into the next rod. I pick it up and finally see the fish, big dawg! Since both hands were occupied I couldnt grab the net so I tried to use both rods to hoist it in the boat, and I totally misjudged my swing and it hit the trolling motor and fell off into the water!! It was definitely over 2 pounds and it would have been my PB but alas, was not to be. I sat on that one spot and caught specks and warmouth non stop for 2 hrs, sometimes 2 at a time. It was the most epic bite I've ever experienced in fresh water. But, as all good things must come to an end, it got to the point where I was getting wet from the choppy water and I left there to look for calmer waters. Ran south to the barge canal and caught 3 more small specks and 2 warmouth and I called it a day. Loaded up at 12:15. All fish caught were in 15-20' with baits 12' down. Pink skipper jigs tipped with minnows ruled the day, but black and blue jiffy jig was a close second. I bought 50 minnows at the bait shop and I had 8 left when I dumped em out. Bad day for minners

That’s the day I was looking for, glad to hear you found em. I hate losing a good fish, lost a good one myself last week, one I had a hard time turning. He was ready to go anywhere but in the boat.

I kept a couple of em for grandma but released the rest. That warmouth was a monster, but when I cleaned it I noticed the meat was riddled with parasites! It was too dark to see it with the camera but it was gnarly looking. Has any seen that before?Name: KIMG0258.jpg
