    Default Side Imaging Question

I understand how it works and what to expect when you are forward trolling. However, we do a lot of side pulling open, deep water basins. Does anyone have any experience, or opinions on how side pulling boat control would work with a side imaging sonar? Anything to be concerned about or avoided? Thanks muchly Folks.

This is just me thinking, if you left transducer in standard position facing fore and aft you wouldn’t get much coverage or a very good return. I’d think you would want to turn trans ducer where when side pulling it would be shooting to front and rear of boat. That way it would be moving in right direction and enough movement to give you a decent return. I hope this makes some kind of sense.

These are things that I was afraid of. Doesn't look like side imaging is going to be beneficial to this type of boat presentation?

Not necessarily, you could get a transom mount portable mount. Then have the ability to turn it which ever way you wanted it. Use it long lining or side pulling. Always a way to make it work.

We do not have one yet. Planned for the near future. Consequently, we need to consider whether or not SI is beneficial to our way of fishing.

Do you use a troll motor while you're side pulling?

SI is beneficial for seeing stuff out away from the boat ... that stuff can then be marked with a waypoint for fishing righting away or on your next trip/pass ...

The SI xducer needs to be mounted with the nose of the xducer toward the forward movement of the boat as others have already mentioned ...
