Which is terrible because I sure want to. Weather great (75° today) but boat has been down while my boat repair company has been battling the Evinrude warranty company over my lower unit on my E-Tec 115. Evinrude warranty denied claim for imploded lower unit. At first they figured I hit something but that was not the case. They then claimed the motor was likely damaged running in shallow water as the skeg showed the paint worn off. I never ran skinny water but the original owner did. Wonder why they don’t advertise you are not supposed to run an E-Tec in shallow water. They sure sell enough motors that go on those coastal boats. Boat repair folks at least got them to send a lower unit at cost so my bill for the unit and labor should be around $2,500. I will never buy Evinrude again. Wish I could afford a Yamaha 4 stroke.

Ouch, that's expensive. Shallow water? I don't get it, unless you're hitting stuff shallow water is just as wet as deep water! Should all be good.

Those fellas that run skinny often run over sand bars or shells that are shallower than expected. Sand is the predominant base also so the end result is wearing the paint off the lower unit skeg. According to Evinrude this shows that the lower unit could have been damaged or weakened because of this environment and was why the lower unit gears and driveshaft failed. I have no idea what the previous owner did and that was why I bought an extended warranty. Just part of life in our secular society. I just want to fish.

Unfortunately most of the time Warranties and insurances are worth only what you are willing to fight to get out of them
