Sometimes we have to learn to crawl before we walk . Then when we master the crawl we finally get to take a few baby steps . Of course it will often happen we get better as we go and who knows when we might actually start to run at some point down the road .
So there i was , the local crappie guy says its really slow today .
I said yes sir I aint even been bit once and then as if on cue ….peck
and up comes a mini crappie , then another mini crappie and another mini crappie . Then to add insult to obvious injury up comes a bluegill to ice the cake
I told him that's quite enough for me and rested my rod on the dock for a second as I gathered up myself to hit another location . Along comes a butterfly and rests with my rod .
I told him I am off to another location ,this is about to terribly slow and the fish are terribly little and even the butterflies are tired of it too ...
Next stop was lots better size wise and there were at least fish that could pull a bit , no fish were in the really really nice category , but keeper crappie beat mini crappie in crappie lip poker all day long . I hit it for about and hour and a half total and some of the fish thumped like they meant it and some not so much .
The Arkie bait did best and i also gave a tube some water time as well .
and once again off I go ...crawl , baby step and then run ….

Bluegill are fun to catch. And small crappie are preferable no crappie so I'm sure you still had fun.
Sorry you had to miss yesterday afternoon. H had a great day, both at the slip and the boat. Mostly small but we still ended with enough nice sized ones for both H and I to take some home for supper tonight..![]()

Any day I'm fishing is a good day, regardless of what I catch.
Small ones have to eat also

Great read for sure...Small fish are better than no fish. Mother nature, and the fish can be fickle at times...Many times when the big ones aren't biting, I gladly like to feel the tug of a little one just to know I'm doing things right...

I’d rather catch even the babies instead of a skunk! Good job getting them to bite.

I agree with SuperDave, I got on the water for the first time in months and spent 12 hours at it, only caught 13 fish total and of that 2 were gills. Of the 11 Crappie only two made the cut and I returned them with the others. Just love the thump and not getting skunked!

Dude your fishing! I haven't even thought of touching a pole since my girl stroked out in 2017..I can only hope she'll start to walk again soon so I can even take a day off....
