I was more fascinated with what he had rigged to the boat. In essence he had a roll cage built around the perimeter of boat and motor. It was light weight aluminum with pins securing it that could be pulled in a matter of minutes and the whole thing removed. Darndest thing I've ever seen. He would pull up behind a generator to fish and tie onto the dam. The cage protected everything. I wish I had gotten a pic as I have thought about that many times....wanting one for my boat.

I also struggle a bit with this and have a few scratches. My biggest concern is hitting the motor more than the boat.

I think just hang a board over the side toward the pilings.
Maybe some padding on the side against the boat.
Some docks at launch ramps can scuff up the paint also.
Granite grey spray paint matches pretty close for me.

On a bridge close enough to the water you can reach it from the boat deck , I use the bungee type mooring ropes and c clamps to hook to the under side of the bridge. It keeps me away from the pilings . Any wave action is absorbed by the mooring ropes.

I bought these, they don't work very well.

I like the looks of these. Has anybody tried them?
