Jig Tying Supplies
New to tying. What size chenille and thread is best? I have medium size chenille and a very thin thread now. Seems a bit too small.

I think for crappie jigs medium or #2 chenille is good. For thread I like 210 denier flat waxed thread.
If your using a larger sized jig head maybe use an estaz chenille or larger body chenille.

Depends on several things, first the thread many use 210 Flat Waxed by Danville, but some use 140 Denier or smaller. I use 210, 140 and even a little 6/0 for color.
Chenille #2 is what most carry and use, but the head size will make a difference in this so what weight heads do you like to use? If 1/8 or larger your going to need to double wrap #2 chenille for sure! I use a little #2 for some colors. For example take a two color chenille, once you change the size to a #3 it's not going to look the same because it's not equal any longer and they or you have to pick a dominant color. So some I use in both sizes. I even use a tiny bit of #4, but that is getting a little too large for some smaller heads. Now Crystal is different in my mind, some still use #2 or #3, but I like #10 and #12 size as when wet it lays down some and make a great body on even a 1/32 Oz, but also on 1/4 Oz.
Read the sticky thread on this board and you will get some help.

I like using the 210, larger chenille and usually nothing smaller than a #1 hook. Sometimes on the smaller chenille I will double it up. Like the other guys have said, it also depends on what your tying (size, pattern, etc.) Personally I use bigger hooks, material, etc. due to the fact my home lake is Grenada and I fish the majority of the time on the Big 4 in MS.
