Spool it with some 4lb nanofil and you get the sensitivity you seek. It's not cheap but a heck of a lot cheaper than a $300 rod.

I agree with skeetbum on the micro series 7 footer, good for bluegills, slabs, white bass, bass, etc. for the money hard to beat.

Have mostly done level winds for years now. Getting into crappie has got me back to spinning. Years ago I had a Mitchel 308 on a 3606, think that was the number, rod. It was great! Today I've got several but the one I always use is an inexpensive Okuma, Sportsmans Whse, for I think it was about $20, the rod is a Shakespere Intrepid 6'6" light action. Have a couple other's but only one get's used much, I loan it out. Shimano 2000 reel is really really nice. It's on an Eagle Claw Feather Light rod. got it for Kokanee but have never caught them! 6'6" rod with really slow tip.

For myself, I like the Ocuma and Shimano reels really well but I suspect other's are just as good. I like rod's with slow tips and normally designed for 2# to 6# line. You might not care for a reel or rod someone else think's is the greatest thing since sliced bread, doesn't matter. There are so many brands out there someone is gonna make something you like and that is most important, something you like. For me, light fish need a slow tip, limber. Get heavier fish and I like medium tip's. Choosing gear for fishing or most anything is more of a personal thing. Greatest rod and reel in the world suck's if you don't care for it!

From what I can tell your looking for. You should just get on aliexpress and find a UL rod or combo. I would probably get the 4'6" to 5'5" in the 1 to 4 pound line class. Put some 2 pound line on it and it will make a small gill feel bigger. Any rod in that price class is going to be low end. The stripper guide I use one the rods I build cost more then the hole rod. But for what you are looking for it will get the job done and at the end of the day I think that's all your asking for.

length and cast distance go together...like length (longer) are easier to break in vehicles and doorways and mishandling...
