    Default Lake Pelba

Excuse my ignorance but I have never fished the Basin before. Driven over it many times but never fished it. So I am completely ignorant to what the high water levels mean as far as possible dangers in different areas of the Basin. My son and I mostly fish inshore saltwater from a kayak. Was thinking of trying something different and launching btwn the interstate and fishing north of I-10 in Lake Pelba from a kayak on Wednesday(5-29)
Is that even safe to do right now?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Should be OK....the most danger you will encounter are the powered boats...bass or bream fish close to the trees....bream should be no problem on crickets...I may be there also...

    BTW...welcome to the forum....

Try shiners for the crappie....bream will also bite them....I catch everything on shiners.... catfish, goo, gar, crappie, bream, bass, and stripers...try around the cypress trees, most have knees below and that attracts the fish....also, fish the shade.....crappie do not like the sun....

I fished 3 weeks ago out of Basin Landing near Pat's Resteraunt in Henderson. You could launch your kayak there and go north toward the interstate and duck into the cypress trees on the right. Very shady for the hot days we have now. and we caught over a hundred bream, keeping 58 big ones. good luck.

Well my son and I made the trip. Ended up keeping 15 bream. Prob threw back 10. Lost 1 good bass at the boat. Couldn’t find any sac-a-lait.
I’ve never really targeted them before so I have a lot to learn. Unfortunately once they open the spillway it will be a while before we get to try there again. Was a good day fishing with my son. On a side note he caught 2 small striped bass at the launch while I was unloading the truck. Thanks for everyone’s input/advice.
