    Default Long day...but still fun.

Spent 8 hours on the water today catching chunky medium size bluegill. Started out in the lake....no bedding going on anywhere. Juvenile shellcracker seemed to be all over but after about 2 hours of them I pulled out and put in below the dam. Found bluegill stacked in a tree in 15 feet water. So I just spot locked and proceeded to catch somewhere around 100 of them. Switched back and forth between a super UL rod and an UL rod. Had a ball. Oh......had a 17 inch largemouth that wanted to play also. Name: IMG_0436.jpg

Size: 62.1 KBAll fish caught using 2.1# test ester monofilament line...a 1 gram jig head and a Sow Bug colored Trout Magnet. Going back in the a.m. as weather doesn’t look the best rest of the week. Last year got into huge bed of shellcracker on 9 May......by 11 May they were all gone.....or fished out. I did not find another shellcracker spawn at Nickajack other than the spawn on 9 May. The full moon in May last year was on the 29th. The full moon this year will be on the 18th. Like most I watch the moon but none of that is set in stone. What I can tell you is I did a lot of scanning in the lake today and did not find any beds. I’ll keep looking but sometimes if you’re not on the water everyday you can miss it...it can happen and be over quick.....as last May.

    Regards

Sounds like a great day. I have been spot checking an area several times a week and have found very little activity so far.

The crackers I caught Sunday morning were all male and no sign of cleaning bed. They were just moving in and old with the sun and clouds. I scanned some areas and no sign of beds. Going back Wednesday just in case. I don't want to miss the big show...Thanks for your post and your videos.

I hope neither of us miss it.....LOL. Thanks for the comment. I know I can catch 8 inch bluegill all day below the dam.....but am looking for those shellcracker. I may try lake again in the morning and fish for a couple of hours and if no good head below the dam. As weather report stands now Thursday and Friday will be no go for me. It’s funny those Gills I’m catching below dam are all peeing. I have scanned the river banks for beds but haven’t found any at all......they got to bed somewhere.

    Regards

A very good day even if you didn’t find the bed or crackers. 100 over the gunnel is my idea of fun. They’ll go one day soon, hope you’re there when they do.

Good read and good luck, Randy. I know the dance you're speaking of, I'm doing the same dance here on Barkley. I think I'm heading out after work this afternoon.

Awesome day on the water and catch. Being on the water everyday possible and constantly looking for other fish pays off.

It's not the numbers or the size, it's the time spent on the water!
