Thread: Loop knots or tie directly to the jig?

Calling on my vast experience at crappie fishing, twice now, I'd call the best knot the surgeon's knot. I think that's what it's called. Run the line through the eye of the hook. Te a slip knot in the end and put the hook, jig through the loop in the slip knot and pull it tight. Learned to do that fly fishing for trout! There the best knot settled once and for all. Your more than welcome. You may find this hard to believe but as a kid, about 6 or 7 yrs old, my knot for tying on hooks was several simple overhand knots! We were still taking 4" fish home in those days. Even some three inch fish. Ah heck, we took everything home then!

A cinch not will work as well as a cinch knot if and only if you are dilligent in adjusting the knot after each fish pull, snag or the likes that has changed the angle of the bait hanging. I am not so I choose to use a loop knot. I find the knot that Richard Gene uses to be very fast and very strong. And it had improved my catch rate with jigs.

For over 50 years I only use the Trilene knot to make solid connections. The double eye turn on the Trilene just gives me a bit more confidence.

I got my post to you, confused with Crestliner08 post, about the black jig.

On the more honest side, I'm not really sure the knot you tie matter's that much. I've used the Palomar and some say it's the best going. I've used the cinch and the improved cinch. Don't understand the need for the improved version the original never failed me. Then fly fishing got me going with the surgeon knot and for jig's it's my most used knot. If I don't use the surgeon knot then it just depends on what I feel like tying. I'm not so sure tying a bunch of granny's is really all that good an idea but, as a kid it worked on those 3 and 4 inch bluegills!

Palomar

loop /jigging , Palomar casting .

I've used same simple overhand knots forever and caught tons of fish but now trying all these others but when they are biting and in hurry revert back to my go to. Usually use the 7 twists and go thru the hole knots now, whatever those are called. it's all good but am trying to find a loop knot that is easy peasey as I jig most of the time.
