If i remember right the false morels have solid, not hollow stems. I read that somewhere once but its been long ago. I found one morel that looked just a little off years ago, and sure enough stem was not hollow

Found about 30 more early fresh blacks, 12 peckerheads, first 4 small yellows, in the deep woods, all just came up so it’s really starting good. I think next week will be awesome for the shrooms. We definitely have the moisture and heat for them this year.![]()
GLOAT, GLOAT, GLOAT.I'm kidding but jealous. Since I put turkey hunting on hold because I don't like being shot at (and I fish better than I hunt), I don't get out in the woods too much to find these. I guess I'll just drool in private.

These are false morels for those that don't know. Notice the cap isnt connected to the stem. Theres also a odd smell...just fyi
The wife quit eating them,So we are frying them up, then freezing laid out on cookie sheet and vacuums sealing, will use a air fryer to heat up and are perfect to eat. You could heat in a oven. I had a mess tonite to eat again. I just don’t get tired of eating morels or finding them either.
I used to chase them as they came up all the way to northern Michigan. Ya got to love springtime!!!

Get em while they are hot, about a week left in the southern to central IN season.
