[QUOTE=sundance;3817840]SC is quite a bit different climate than what you'd find at HR. I just can't see them surviving the sustained cold we see from time to time. Maybe I'm wrong. Add the fact they can't reasonable climb the "Narrows" that extends from the upper part of lake Tillery to HR.
At the same time, Life has a "way". I'm maybe wrong.[/QUOTE
I'm more inclined to think someone bought a cute little reptile and brought it back to NC. Once it got big enough to scare them they dumped it off. Same way those crazy snakes get to FL. We had a relatively mild winter so I could see it surviving or may have not been there long.

I way I took it. Somebody had it as a pet till lt got to big. Then they released it in the lake.
I know some N C State students that had them as pets. When they got to big to handle they were released in Jordan. Don’t know if any survived but yeah people release them in non-native areas. One lived in Don Howell lake in Concord for bout 10 years. It was 8 feet or so. People used to stop on highway 73 and watch it. The Salisbury Post has had several articles and sightings over the years here on High Rock.
