I have also used those longlining with pretty good results. I have started doing something with most plastics I troll. I put them in near the boat where I can see them at the speed I want to troll. If they do not have good action at that speed, I either don't use them or try a different speed. Both paddles and curly tails seem to have a range where they work best and it is not the same for all brands/models.

Sliders/paddle tails are one of the best crappie lures of all time. I have seen them out-Catch curl tails 3:1 at times. However, I was fishing the same body of water 3 weeks later and the curly tails smoked the sliders. Successful fishermen experiment with color combos, lure types, hook sizes/styles continuously while on the water. You might be surprised by the results of your experiments.

I have had good luck pulling these.
Last thought ,
I run double 1/16s on some rods.
They have 1 curley and 1 paddle.
