Default Crappie success at last 3/01/19

Although it was raining, Dr Phil and I decided that since the wind wasn’t blowing very hard and the air temp was in the 50’s, that we might try our luck at crappie fishing. The lake is still stained brown and more debris than I have ever seen before, but we eased around all the trash and went to docks.

I hit an old standby dock and caught one keeper there and a 3 lb Drum. We fished a few more docks without finding any biting fish before hitting one that we pulled 5 keepers out of and a couple of short fish.

It rained off and on and more on than off during our 4.5 hr trip. The wind was predicted to shift and pick up steam in late morning and it did. So we ran to the Wolftever bridge to get out of the rain just before called it a day. It was a pretty good stop. Not great but we did catch 6 more keepers including a 14.5” Black crappie and a couple of spotted bass. More short fish there as well.

Water temp was 56.6 degrees on surface and wind was light from the N in the morning but shifted from the west around noon and was about 5-8 mph just guessing. Not whitecapping. Colder temps coming in the next few days. The current flow out of Wolftever creek was pretty strong at the bridge.

I caught my fish on a Paradise Stump Bug by Bonehead tackle. Phil used the Stump Bug in Black/Chartreuse and they liked the Paradise one much better. Lolol.

Nice catch! I am hoping to get to go soon. Did you go back in the creek or just fish the bridge area? I am asking to check where the least debris was located. I like to long ling jigs this time of year and it is not as much fun when you are dealing with a lot of debris.

    Thanks, Jayw

i did not go back in the creek. We just stopped at the bridge to fish a couple of minutes before putting boat on trailer. Lots of debris. One of our Cdc friends trolled yesterday and only caught one fish. I don’t troll but if I did I would wait on the water to clear a bit and the debris to finally go away. But what do I know about trolling. Lolol.

Thanks for the info. I will just stay at home and wash and vacuum the boat. Maybe I will get out next week. If you ever feel the need to troll I will keep an open seat for you.
