Varivas 4# FC line is .165mm......Varivas 4# FC line is .165mm. So on premium lines the diameter is the same across the board.

Fishing Center Hill.....Dale Hollow.....this is why I use FC leader even if fishing with mono. The rocks! When you use it you find out just how much better it is for abrasion-resistance.

tie straight to the braid ….....crappie aint all that smart
if you must use a leader just use some good clear mono and save a few dollars

I agree with Kechn here, I wouldn't use a fluoro leader because of it's invisibility characteristics, but I definitely use it for abrasion resistance. Most braids and/or fused lines (like nano) are very prone to abrasion. Best to go with something more durable on the business end. JMO.

seems that would take away from the casting distance with the knot having to pass the guides as well as the sensitivity you would gain from the braid.

I have no issues using a leader with 2# test on rods that have micro guides that are only 3mm. The 5 turn surgeons knot passes right through. I may lose a couple of feet casting because of the knot but using the NanoFil more than makes up for that in the distance you get with the stuff vs casting mono.

OK so if I try the NanoFil I'm going to get the 4# NanoFil and then use 2# SOS trout mono line as the leader. Gonna use a long leader because I tie a bunch while fishing. Just use a little each time. Anything I need to worry about or consider?

Not really....other than make sure you tie a good leader knot....just fish on! If you ever want to use an FC leader the Trout Magnet Phantom brand of leader is $6.95 for 60 meters...a good value.

One last thing. The NanoFil doesn't have line memory the way mono does correct?
