I got my first look at Okatibbee. When I arrived in Meridian this afternoon and got checked in to my hotel, I drove to the house I have leased on the north side. From there I plugged in google maps "Okatibbee Dam". I followed the directions and about 20 minutes or so I arrived at the launch. First impression? Looks very much like the lake I fished when I lived in Arkansas. Although a good bit larger than my old home lake I saw a lake that brings back memories. Two rigs parked in the parking area and I could see one boat in the middle of the lake on what I assume was the creek channel. I could not tell if the person in the boat was catching or just fishing. Drove to the tailrace area and there found about a dozen folks fishing. I was surprised at the flow. It was strong and fast. White perch wasn't doing much in the tailrace but I did talk to one guy that was white perch fishing and catfishing at the same time. He had three cats. One flathead about 5 or 6 lbs and two cannel or blue about a pound each. It was nice to see the lake and I look forward to searching the lake in my boat.
