Default What's a good fish finder for the front

of the boat at or under $300. My front FF went out this past spring. Just a plain old GPS Fish Finder with a good lake map.

DD .. I'm running a Lowrance Hook 7 (2d/DI/GPS) on the bow of my boat ... and it's in that price range. May contact Brian@BBGMarine on here and get a better deal. He's also a good one to talk to about what brand & model will do what you need it to do, as well as usually being cheaper than the box/online outlets.

Thanks. One I'm looking at reviews on is the Garmin STRIKER Plus 5cv Fishfinder. You can even create and store maps for up to 2 million acres thanks to the QuickDraw Contours software. Looks pretty neat

I have a Garmin Striker Plus 7CV I use on my small two man boat. Compared to my birds on the big boat I really like the DI and 2D sonar better. I haven't played with the maps much, usually just single pole fishing out of the little boat. Hard to beat the Lakemaster map card for the lakes I fish. My opinion if your looking to run split screen with a map and DI or 2d you may wanna go up to a 7 inch unit. Keep your eye out a lot of folks upgrading this time of year and some good 2nd hand units are going for cheap, may want to keep an eye on the Bass Boat Central classifieds. Those guys swap out electronics like we change underwear.

Boy Howdy, I wish I had see this a week ago. I bought Hook 7X that has DI and GPS for $300 only to discover it does not have any mapping on it. I knew you could not use enhanced map chips but I've never seen a unit that had GPS but no map data. All you get is a blank screen with a curser, You can save and store trails and way points but that's it.
