Monticello first trip

Just to add to Sea Ray's post. We were glad to meet up with everyone again for it has been way to long since last time. We had the pleasure to meet with Steve Comalander He was launching his boat as we were loading up to go out. Very nice fellow with a great since of humor. Told us we couldn't be in his video.

I guess we be ugly to all you folks.

Also, had the pleasure to meet Papa gone fishing who caught up with us and caught a few fish as we were all were looking for the schools of perch at different depths. Happy to meet you sir! Hate we couldn't talk much, but glad you showed up to help out in the catching department.

Here's the advice from us. Just fish hard and watch the birds. I have never seen loons scoot so fast over water to get to the diving gulls as we did yesterday! If you can get there quickly you can catch fish. Had a great day with Everett and Monk, they both fished hard I think they enjoyed a learning day for all of us. As for the meat loaf sandwich Sea Ray had it was great to look at but would have been a diet buster for me. Thanks for the offer though! I would have enjoyed I'm sure.

We had 37 perch total with several throw back each and numerous catfish plus a couple of yellow perch caught, Monticello is a beautiful lake and I'm ready to make that trip again!

Great trip guys. Good to see everyone and to get back on the water. I saved you a sammich but being the true friend that he is Uncle Remus said Big Dawgg don't need to eat that so I'll eat it on the way home and look out for him. What are friends for if not to have your back!

I am a casual acquaintance with Jim Casada, an outdoor writer and sportsman from NC. He publishes a monthly blog about things outdoors and he shares some old time outdoor recipes, many using wild game. This was "Uncle Jeb's Meatloaf Sandwich" so if anyone is interested I'll share the recipe. Unlike most meatloaf this one does not have tomatoes in it. (it uses ground beef, not venison.)

Dawgg , You mean that wouldnt let you in the boat with em? Cant blame em though. Nobody would have had a sammich for lunch then. Glad ya'll had a great time. Good to hear Monk and Everet out there with ya. Congratulations to all. Maybe we can do it again soon.

So was that perch chasing bait up under the gulls or loons pushing up bait?

Looks like a lot of fun. Everywhere else is red mud tomato soup!!

was loons and what ever you call those birds that look sorta like a loon (connarants ??? ) dang I don't know

That's funny uncle remus!! I know what that name for cormorants is. Heard it all my life. A water turkey is another name for a anhinga.

Both are fish eating divers. I've seen gulls grab shad out of the beaks of loons as soon as they surface, and a loon will eat minnows off your hooks.

A loon will pull drag off the reels of striper tackle!!
