    Default Colors and pound test

Won’t be long till my wife and I make the pilgrimage up to Ohio to visit my mother in law. While we’’re up there I plan on going out on the Sassy Sal, out of Port Clinton, and catch a limit off jumbo perch. Sitting here, thinking of changing out the line on an old but reliable spinning outfit and thinking back on this past weekends episode of Kentucky Afield. One segment of the show had a guide fishing on Barren River Lake who claimed that he never uses anything but unpainted jigs, white tails, and clear monofilament two pound test line when he fish’s for crappie. It’s been at least a decade since I’ve started using High Viz line simply do to my eyes not seeing clear lines as well. It ties all the knots I need with equal strength as the type of fishing changes. Weather spider rigging, vertical fishing with jigs or minnows, or pulling crank baits, or jigs I use 8 to 12 pound test as it can sometimes be just strong enough to get you free from that brush pile. Not sure how the guide on that show could help from gettin bored if that’s the only way he fished. With that said, I think I’ll spool up my ole rig with some 10 pound high viz and get me some jumbos. Wish me luck.
