Default New to the board from Louisiana

Hello all, I have been a long time reader of info from the forums on this site for years but never joined. I finally joined! The fishing bug has bit me and renewed my desire to catch some crappie like the old times when I used to fish with my Dad. I have recently got a boat and getting it ready for the water (I’m new to boating) in the meantime i had planned a family fishing trip out on Bayou Chicot cabin on the water back on 8/10. Family had a blast, and my 10yr and 17yr nephews caught their first ever crappie. We caught 11 from the dock Name: Image1535123603.700857.jpg

I want to plan another family trip in March but unfortunately Chicot State Park cabins are booked solid for the times I want. I was looking at Poverty Point cabins on the water ,and was wondering if it would be any good fishing off the porch of the cabins for those not going out on the boat. Any of you been there that can give some insight?

Welcome to the board. As you’ve probably seen, you’ll find a lot of valuable information on here. Since you’re “new to boating” check out the home page and do some exploring. Lots of valuable info on this site.

Thanks for the report too. My family and I made a trip to Chicot about a month ago and wore out the bluegills. We have 2 cabins reserved for Memorial Day weekend next year. Looking forward to that trip.

I’m not familiar with Poverty Point but can give you tips on Old River in Morganza. We are having a get together and lunch tomorrow at noon. Feel free to join us. I’m planning to be there at daylight with 2 of my neighbors. Hopefully the fish are biting.

Welcome to the board. You have a hotspot rite in your backyard, the oxbow behind the Buhlow airport. Come join us tomorrow at Ole River Landing there will be people using different methods to try to catch fish, you might find some tips that will help You and the boys. If not to fish they make a pretty good hamburger.

I went to Poverty Point for the first time(only time) last spring. It had rained and the water was muddy and the wind was blowing about 14 mph. Not the ideal day!! I tried several different spots with no bites at all. Had to meet some people, so cut the trip short and went to Ferriday. On the way back I stopped at the Sonic in Choudrant to get a snack, and the girl that waited on me asked where I had been fishing. I told her Poverty Point, but didn't catch any. She said her family went there the weekend before and caught a lot off the bank at cabin #6. Now you know my secret spot on Poverty Point. They do have a facebook page and put pictures of big fish people catch on it. Good luck!! escout

Only place I can think of that you could try is Old River Landing and the one about a 1/2 mile to the west. Might be able to at least catch some catfish tight-lining and meet up with us for lunch. I’d say you can jump in my boat but I’m bringing 2 others with me already.
