Toyota doesn't make the FJ any more, 2016 was the last year. Kia and Hyundai have 100,000 mile powertrain warranties

I'd be gun shy of a Nissan with a CVT transmission. They have struggled with them and I'm leery of using one for towing.
What kind of boat would you be towing with it?

I personally have a Toyota Tacoma with a 4 liter V6 that has served me well but gas mileage isn't very good when I tow with it. It got right at 20 mpg when I took a trip 400 mile trip with it this weekend but pulling my Triton TX18 it only gets around 14 mpg. I seldom go more than a few miles to launch the boat but when I have made an occasional long trip towing the boat the fuel gauge drops fast.

The boat only weighs 1800#, full load. I've put it on a scale.
I had an Escape, v6 rated for 3500#. That boat owned the escape. I'm now gun-shy of another vehicle rated at 3500#. Quite possibly it was the short wheelbase. Maybe a Toyota Sienna AWD would do better ?
My previous vehicle was a trailblazer, no issues.
I'm all over the board on a vehicle. I've always liked the mid 90's Blazer (full size). Yeah, I'm driving my wife nuts!

I too drive an '02 and put a motor and trans in at 225,000/ It hasn't been wrinkled and I bought the kit for all the extras so other than shocks and tires, I can't think of anything it needs. No power everything either, so stuff just keeps working. Pretty is as pretty does.

My boat is approximately the same weight as yours. I towed it for a year with a Honda Odyssey rated at 3500lbs. It got owned as well. I now have a Silverado that pulls it like a breeze, braking is still compromised though.

EWS - thank you, I think I'll stay away from the Sienna.
Lower rider - the MPG is one thing I'll miss with Escape, even when pulling the boat, 16- 18 mpg was the normal. 24 on the highway.
Skeetbum- that was the plan with the escape, unfortunately it didn't work out.

I am not sure where you got your information, but Nissan trucks do not use a CVT transmission. My 2017 Frontier SV 4X4 has a 5 speed automatic and with the Value Truck Package which gives you the towing package will tow 6300#.

The Pathfinders use a CVT, have since 2013. Yes, they had some problems with it. Supposedly, for the '17&'18 models, the transmission, engine, and suspension was redone. Which upped the towing capacity to 6000#, from 5000#.
I can speak, first hand, for the older Versa (2012), and a 2017, their is a notable difference in how those two drive.
    Ive test driven a '16 & a '18 Pathfinder. The '18 was a bit more responsive.

Thanks ... I did not know there was such a difference between the 3rd and 4th generation Pathfinders. The 3rd gens were built on the same platform as the Frontier.

Its over! Got back a little bit ago from a dealer. Wife and me talked it over. Saw an add for a 2018 Nissan Frontier, crew cab, 4wd, v6, value truck package.
That makes 3 new vehicles from that dealer. Hopefully we're done for many many many years!
Now I need to get the races out of the boat trailer hubs, repack, and see how it tows! I was taking my time repacking them, as I did not have a tow vehicle. And I'm off the rest of the week, work the weekend. Any tips?
