I was honored that one of our crappie.com members wanted to come down from Greenback and fish with me today and maybe pick up a few pointers. I showed him how to catch little crappie. Grin. Jason did catch the biggest crappie today, a nice 13.25” Black crappie caught from off shore structure.
Jason brought his notebook and asked several questions about dock shooting and other techniques for catching them. We really didn’t discuss trolling with planer boards and I know that a Tenncrappie will be disappointed to hear that. Chris, maybe you could take Jason on a planer board trip. Lolol.
we caught just enough crappie today for a dinner for Jason’s family. Fish were deep and we caught on a variety of different lures and colors.
I really had a great time with you today, Jason and look forward to another trip in the future when we can get our schedules together.

The honor was all mine! Getting up before 4 AM to make the drive down and be ready to fish atdaybreak was definitely worth it. DK andI tried to fish together last year, but with my work schedule and other issues,we were only able to make it happen today. I’ve always fished for crappie with a minnow and bobber on brushpiles, trolling planar boards, or trolling cranks. My most success has come using Bishop’s planar boards (thanks Arnold!),but I want to learn to single-pole fishing. I’ve read DK’s posts for a long time, and he has provided so much good informationin them. However, seeing him and histechnique in action was something else. I’vereally got to learn to watch my line better! Even though DK has described off shore structure in past posts, actuallyseeing some examples has given me some perspective. I now have some new ideas about where to fishin Ft. Loudoun and Tellico – places I wouldn’t have bothered lookingbefore. DK provided so much informationtoday, and I’m sure I only captured a fraction of it. If only I was as good of a student as he is ateacher…
I really appreciate DK taking time to teach me single-polefishing on a hot Sunday. DK, I’m gladyou had a good time too. My wife said Ilook like a kid in grade school who has gotten to go on a field trip. I’ll definitely take you up on the offer foranother trip! Tenncrappie, I’ll fishwith you too (For everyone else, Tenncrappie has also helped me out in the pastJ ).
Looks like everybody had a good time and lots of learning. Thanks to drumking, I’ll be busy tomorrow morning. You taught him about litewirehooks and catching fish.
